I'm including this photo because I think it says a lot about the indigenous population of suburban Illinois, at least the indigenous population between the ages of 12 and 14. Here we have five girls and six boys at the playground. Notice how there is absolutely no mixing between the sexes. The girls are standing motionless, in a clump. The boys are moving all over the place: in, up and over the playground train. Are they showing off? Do they have a lot of energy to work off? They certainly have the girls' attention. In a couple more years, I'm guessing there will be a lot more mingling...

Tonight is the final episode of Battlestar Galactica. The spines on the humanoid Cylons glow red (during sex) but I thought it would be a cool effect to try. Not the sex part. You don't need to see that.

One of the reasons I watched BSG was for nostalgia, but also to see how it portrays the seemingly hopeless lives the remaining humans have.

Hopelessness.

That, for me, is a dark place that I never want to get to. I believe that without hope, we become more self-absorbed and self-serving.

I have much more to say on this topic but I don't want to get preachy. And it would be. So I'll spare you today.
